Stumped for Words... Why?

Hi All,

An interesting question was asked of me by a colleague a couple of days ago...

"Why can some people walk up to a person they have never met and strike up a conversation but I can't?"

Now, this person is generally a very confident person... The problem (they advise me) is not with confidence, it's knowing where to start or how to maintain a conversation.

My personal experience is that if I approach anybody with a genuine interest in finding out more about them I tend to have no problem with conversational material. I explained my take on it and we had the obvious rapport, confidence, perceptual positions , etc discussion...

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this as there appears not to be an obvious answer when confidence is not the issue (although I still have a suspicion that it may be a factor). I would like to stress this person is not a client, it was just a conversation had whilst driving many miles on the motorway...

I look forward to your ideas...

Aaron
