| Installing NLP

I had a very interesting discussion with Gabe. As his answer is very clear and informative (distinction between NLP and DHE and other things), he gave me his OK to publish our discussion. Please react.
Hi gabriel,
After years of NLP studies with great NLP teachers, I feel now a need to come back to a more simple, more structure oriented, more original NLP. In that perpective, I’m watching a lot of Richard Bandler’s videos in order to prepare my participation to “Charisma Enhancement” in march.
In “Bandler effect”, motivation DVD, I had an insight that proved very efficient, at least for me: Richard has quite a lot of difficulty in having a woman be conscious of internal images. Then he expresses all his talent and genius in order to get them.
The idea I had is the following: it seems that Richard really installs the model in the person:
- Explains the model directly and with metaphors
- Embedded questions, just calibrating Y/N. “I don’t know if you’re conscious yet of them…”
- If No, just goes back to the pre-induction talk, re-explaining the model again a different way before the “no” can raise the conscious mind.
The question is this one: “Do you think that someone who doesn’t know about NLP has internal images and sounds?”. Of course it is provocative, the answer is yes, and we would say that these images are unconsious. (the only problem for me is that’s too easy: psychanalists use the same answer if someone tells them they don’t have an oedipian complex.)
But I can tell that presupposing that I have first to install the model helped me a lot in my sessions with clients, ie “real people”.
I’m eager to read your reactions and advices.

I think the forum would like your message.
There is a huge difference between the "unconsciousness" of the images and sounds in contrast with the complex.... we from the outside can see that the other person is watching images (we don't necessarily know if those ar good, bad, past, present or future) and we can watch them hearing internal dialogues while in the case of the complex is less observation and more interpretation. Not necessarily false interpratation but still the evidence is much more complex equivalence.
Sure when we watch someone looking at an internal image (many times even pointing at it or drawing it with thier own hands) tehre is still some complex equivalence in that A (behavior) means B (internal image) BUT we calibrate while always consicous that it is only a map (our own belief). Most psychoanalists believe the complex to be truth not a map.
Yet your idea - perception about installing the model is very commonly used to make things easier. Plus Bandler has moved from traditional NLP into DHE in most of those interventions.
Difference? NLP would use what is there, while DHE would install and add thinsg to whatever is already there.
So bottom line if the person has or not images and sounds, Richard (or any of us close to him) will make it so that the person will have them by the time he is finished!
