Here's a link to an interesting article in the LA Times on Evolutionary Psychology.
In it, a psychologist says he's willing to believe that depression and self-cutting could be 'a cry for help' rather than 'anger directed inward', his previous explaination for such behaviour.
It's nice to see that the concept of secondary gain is finally making a little headway in mainstream psychology, albeit as part of 'new and radical thinking'. Better late than never, I usually exclaim (that or 'Excelsior!').
Still, I wonder what it might be like not to have a pat explanation for all behaviours? What if one observed and calibrated in each case and then acted on that those things might mean to that particular person in that particular context?
Nah, that's crazy talk!
