ESP? or USP?

Just trawling for opinions here... I'm aware that some people include energy work in their trainings, and some who have work within the NLP model also adopt some of the terminology of psychic practitioners. I'm curious how we can square the term ESP (*extra* sensory perception) within a field that uses sensory representation as one of its fundemental "building blocks"

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we can or we can't, I'm just interested in opening up a discussion about it. I wonder whether the term *ultra* sensory perception might be more appropriate?

For example... under certain conditions (sometimes trance, sometimes after strenuous physical exercise) I can "see" auras. Now, I can find no real evidence that these auras have a physical existence, yet they can correspond to the individuals state and to other factors... in my model of the world, it makes sense to work on the hypothesis that my neurological system takes in vast quantities of data all the time which is processed at a non conscious level, some of which can be presented to my conscious awareness as a visual metaphor, a sort of syneasthesic hallucination (I also perceive discordant music visually as something akin to a torn dirty rag).

So the development of *ultra* sensory perception would be a function of sensory acuity along with the honing of some of the non-conscious mental processes involved with organising the vast spectrum of information being received by the neurological (and extended) system and the means of communicating the results to conscious awareness in a meaningful/useful manner.
