On moderation of a discussion thread on Stephen R. Covey

Hi all,

When a recent discussion became more about perceptions and communications and less about the original topic and especially when it became about the role of moderation on the site, I moved it to the appropriate part of Connections for these sorts of discussions.

Be Well,

Michael Perez

Hi Paul,

Just a quick meta-comment. When posting on a topic specific forum, you may find that people automatically assume that context is essentially part of the communication within that forum.

For example, if people post a question here about pain relief, they're more likely to get NLP ad/or Hypnosis based recommendations than medical referrals. No disrespect to medicine is intended or implied, it's just the context which helps to determine the nature of the response.

That might explain the NLP-centric nature of the replies to your question and, unless I'm very much mistaken, was not meant as any sort of disrespect towards other disciplines and/or views of the world.

And thanks for the discussion!

Be Well,

Michael Perez

I agree Michael, I see what your saying...

I wouldn't expect anything else.. after all it is a NLP forum.

I'm sure Dave didn't mean anything with his comment. I actually didn't look at it that way until you said, and now that you say......AARRRHHHH !!

David - thank you for you comment, it is much appreciated, in an NLP dominated world, it can get a little *squeaky..... :-)

Yes, and I was also responding to your original reply and as you've rephrased it since, it's much more clear to me that this is and/or was is your meaning. Thanks for the clarifiction on both counts!

Yep, as a primarily Ericksonian hypnotist, that's sometimes the feeling I get on mainstream Hypnosis forums!

I agree about finding the interaction fascinating. It's a unique experience for me and I love learning about people and their communications!

As for the 'on-topic-ness' of the conversation, it certainly seems to me to be a natural evolution of the conversation which started out being about the book and then was about the nature of the opinions about the book.

And I'd also agree that spiraling up into higher and higher levels of meta-commentary about interaction might be less that useful in this thread, therefore my decision to end my participation in the thread (until you raised this question, that is...).

And thanks for the input, Chris!

Be Well,

Michael Perez

Me Ma had a great saying, "People living in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones.."

It may not be Poison on the arrows, but its arrows. If thats the way you choose to interact, fine. Good luck with that.

Please let Dave answer his own replies next time.. Oh I forgot your the Moderator, the one that makes people feel so welcome...

Re: Stephen R. Covey ?

Hi Paul,

As it seems that our interpersonal communications are drifting farther and farther off topic and away from my intent (really!), I'd ask that you consider taking any further such discussion with and/or about me to private message should you find that valuable.

If you'd like to discuss the philosophy/implementation on the site, we have a feedback and suggestions section of the forum just for that.

Be Well,

Michael Perez

Hi Paul,

Which, of course ignores the rest of the sentence...

If I have to clarify my meaning, I will. If I have a responsibility to step in as a moderator, I will.
