Jonathan Altfeld - Irresistable Voice 2: Spellbinding Magical Influence

Jonathan handed me these CDs at his recent Holographic Communications seminar.

“Nice packaging,” I said. “How much did it cost?”

“$5,” he said.

“Worth it,” I replied.

The first 2 CDs contain lots of tips for improving your voice. I’m going to give away one of them as an example of how useful these tips are. Jonathan suggests obtaining a Walkman or MiniDisc player that gives real-time feedback through the headphones as you’re speaking. I first heard this tip from Jonathan several years ago and spent the whole lunch hour changing my internal hearing so that I hear what other people hear when I speak. This tip alone has doubled or tripled the quality of my voice and thus vastly improved the response I get from people.

I remember getting a guy to try this with the dictation machine I had. The transformation in his voice was magical – and took about a quarter of a second. Such is the power of properly organised, neurological feedback loops. But he hadn’t noticed any change in his voice!

There’s another tip on the first CD that by itself more than justifies the cost, which is the guitar-shaped vowels and is just genius. But you’ll have to buy the CDs or persuade Jonathan to find out more.

The second CD concerns the 5 biggest problems that people have whilst speaking. I agree with Jonathan’s list and hope to eliminate one of them myself. It also talks about chaining states vocally including the fabulous hub state concept. The big idea is that instead of arguing/reframing someone into doing what you want, you simply elicit the state in which they’re most likely to do what you want. This might seem obvious to you. It only seems obvious to me after listening to the CD and wonder why I’ve been doing it the hard way all these years.

The third CD teaches ‘headlining’, which is an extremely powerful skill that Jonathan teaches in both Holographic Communication and Linguistic Wizardry. It’s a way of grabbing people’s interest with the first 5-20 words out of your mouth. This again puts people into the most receptive state of mind for what you want to communicate. Jonathan gives an easy strategy for generating good headlines but add a step for making it appropriate to the context. If you start to sound like a newspaper seller, your friends will look at you funny.

The fourth CD covers the Voice of Truth which I’ve yet to play with. It teaches both basic and advanced concepts in calibration.

Jonathan’s voice itself sounds best on the second and third CDs and is much improved from Irresistable Voice I. On the first CD, it’s a bit staccato and on the last it sounds like he has a cold. All the CDs are scripted which makes Jonathan sound less natural than he does in reality.

All in all, if you liked the original Irresistable Voice, you’ll love Irresistable Voice 2. You don’t need the former to appreciate the latter. If you've had a lot of voice training, the first CD might be superfluous. But otherwise you’ll need both to have a great voice.

Another fantastic resource from Jonathan Altfeld.

Do you guys really need 2+ pages from me of how great this CD set is?

Who am I to spoil the great suprises and amazing discoveries that I know you'll get from it?

I'll sum it up in one sentence - ''probably the best investment I've ever made in an NLP-type product''.

That do ya?

Hi,
I was wondering if any one knows where to purchase a voice recorder with real time feed back.
I'm having trouble finding one

Cheap and easy way to do it is to get a microphone and earphones and plug them into your PC.

Re: Jonathan Altfeld - Irresistable Voice 2: Spellbinding Magical Influence

Great idea, Nick! Many of us have this opportunity every day with our PC setups, but when I made these recommendations initially about 8-9 years ago, I was still using an actual recording cassette walkman! Now it's harder to find such devices, and I haven't tested out the little digital voice recorders to see if they act like a private amplifier or "personal PA system." Plus in my case, I get to use my seminar mic & PA frequently enough that I don't feel a need to augment using my PC; nonetheless you've made a *very* smart suggestion for others who still want/need some form of live amplified feedback loop to take their own vocal self-coaching to another level.

Certainly using one's own PC and turning both the mic & the speakers on, high enough to hear ourselves, but low enough to prevent feedback noise loops, is easy & brilliant.

There's still nothing else around better than creating that live feedback loop; having our voice amplified helps us to hear our voices much more the way other people do. Nothing comes close to giving us as much vocal information, so as to adjust how we produce sound, real time.

Well done!

Best Regards,

- Jonathan

Hey,

I've looked on Jonathan's site and can't find 'Irresistable voice -2', only the first one which I already have. Any info on where to get it?

Are you guys using voice recorder to play it back to yourself, or is there a way to hear yourself as your talking?

Many thanks,

Shaun.

Hi Shaun,

Happy to help. Though I admit I'm confused as to how someone could miss that product at my site. I went to my main products page...

And at the top of the list is a link & image for Irresistible Voice 2. It's a pretty visible product on my site, all things considered.

I hope this helps. If you ran into a dead link on my site or someone else's, in trying to find that product page, then it would be very helpful if you would share with me what the problem might have been. A private email/message would be more than sufficient.

And as to topic, any audio/voice recorder that amplifies sound real-time back into headphones or speakers, or that simulates a PA system, will work miracles in terms of giving you that critical real-time feedback loop. Of course, a PA system is optimal, but not everyone has those available for voice development practice.

And if you're willing to share, how's your progress coming along with the material from the 1st set? I always like hearing some of the cool stories customers send to me about how differently people respond to their voices after they've worked with the material for a while.

Regards,

- Jonathan

Re: Jonathan Altfeld - Irresistable Voice 2: Spellbinding Magical Influence

Hi Jonathon,

Oh yes, lol. I'm not sure how I missed that either, I glanced down past that as I seen 'Spell binding Magical Influence' and not the 'Irresistable voice' heading.

I'm getting on very well thank you, I'm using in conjuction with a Joseph Arthur Program and a few other things and it is been very beneficial. I am really working on my command tone down as I naturally upward inflect alot.

I think this comes from trying to put some energy into my voice, as I have a natural monotone. Any tips for developing downal tone without sounding flat?

Thanks again,

Shaun.

Does Irresistible Voice 2 cover a lot that is not in the first set that came out 'Finding Your Irresistible Voice'? Do you need both sets I + II or either will do, or you need to have heard I to get the most out of II?

As first set alone is expensive enough and retails at about £50 ($100).

Where can we hear Jonathan Atfeld's Irresistible Voice besides the CD's, I could find no clips of him (that worked) talking & no videos on Youtube.

Yes, they are different.

The first set deals with how to make your voice sound good, then great.

The second set covers aspects of the first set, but only as review for new material. Without the first set, you'll probably get only 30%-50% of the value from the second set. Useful, but you'll miss the solid foundation and some of the skills needed from set 1. Still, his ideas of location from the second set can easily help you double your results of influence.

As for Jonathan not being on YouTube - heckle him till he does it. I'll start on him as well... Jonathan, get with new media! :-)

Enjoy,
Michael.

Michael,

Thanks for reply. So you really need the II version? Will the first one cover more than enough to improve your voice?

How often do you need to practice with the CD's? Some techniques you master right off and use, or most you need to practice a lot for them to positively effect your voice?

Thanks!

Depends on your outcome. The first one covers more than enough to improve your voice. That's it's whole focus - how to tune your voice for what you want it to do. Things like how to speak so people like to listen, regardless of what you're actually talking about, how to give embedded commands in many different ways, etc...

The second leverages off the first, using the skills learnt to achieve more powerful influence. If you just want to improve your voice, you don't need the second set.

As for practice - Taking just the first set, it is possible to listen to them just once. They include exercises while listening to help you learn, understand and feel (feeling is the important part of the process) the skill being taught. However, like any skill it takes practice to get good. And you have to practice these skills. Thankfully, we're always talking somewhere, so it's easy to get practice time.

This is probably a good reminder for me to re-listen to both sets, as it's been some time and I'm sure I'll get things I missed before...

Enjoy,
Michael.

Hi Mike,

Thanks again for help, please feel free to post links of Jonathan taking or presenting when they are online, would be interesting to see. I'm sure he speaks very well, one would hope so releasing CD's like that and definitely would increase sales with Youtube clips, etc, if people can hear what potential they can reach. But in saying that Deepak Chophra has Diet books & CD's out - and he is a chubby guy, yeh go figure? But I've faith Jonathan can walk the walk, from what I've heard with voice & presentation skills.

OK Guys, I'll get with the new media sometime this year, I promise. I'm neck deep in moving boxes at the moment, having just arrived at my new digs in Pennsylvania, with a busy Autumn planned, so I'll get a "round tuit" at some point soon. (Also my students who've been waiting to hear about rescheduled courses will get a group email from me shortly, once my new PA office is fully up & running).

Thanks for asking your questions Peter. And thanks Michael for offering your replies. I'd have to agree on all counts (except where saying that "if all you want to do is improve your voice, you don't need the 2nd set." I do think there's enough small-chunk voice improvement suggestions & exercises in the 2nd set to make it worthwhile for voice improvement also, though certainly IV2 is meant primarily for more advanced influence efforts).

So rather than waste your valuable time offering unnecessary answers Michael's already given, I'll simply add some adjusted price options.

Peter's right that the 1st set costs GBP50 or so when you order it from one of my several UK distributors. And set 2 is likely double that.

And I'm happy for you to order from any of my (currently 3) UK distributors (Mike Beale of PPI, Andy Smith of Coaching Leaders, and also the guys who make that very cool device called the Soundboard). You'd get it fastest from them, no question. Your price with these gents includes VAT & shipping, all in.

However one can order from me directly, and save a bit of money, if you're willing to wait a bit for shipping. Also, there's no VAT.

Set 1 costs US$70 plus $10 shipping overseas (US$80, or ~GBP40)
Set 2 costs US$139 plus $12 shipping overseas (US$151, or ~GBP75).
Both sets shipped to you for ~$220, or ~GBP110.
And one can pay by paypal as well.

Best regards,

- Jonathan

Jonathan,

Thanks for info. With risk of customs & tax duty in UK, it would probably be best for me to order from within UK. If duty is charged , the savings made will be lost.

I've had it before on CD's or DVD's from abroad , not everytime but pretty often, I think anything above £18 value on customs form can get charged duty, especially multiple CD's or DVD's.

Can I ask how long until you start to see improvements using 'Finding Your Irresistible Voice' First Set? And how often do you need to practice i.e. each day or week? And for how long you do it for months? Will vary with each person but roughly.

I have a few copies of Jonathan's products that I can ship from the UK - avoiding customs & duty problems. Please message me for details.

Hi Peter,

I get varied responses from customers on results times, and I think this depends highly on specific vocal outcomes. The material is, I think, dense -- very little fluff -- 100 minutes, full of 44 exercises on a large array of different vocal skills areas. Not everyone has the same vocal desires when approaching the set.

Some people get immediate results after just the first listen-through. I think that's probably rare though; I'd expect 3-4 times running through the set to produce not only heightened awareness, but structural changes to how you produce sound, and also to form the beginnings of new habits. I've also heard occasionally that it takes longer, but that too would be rare.

Chances are, 2-4 times through the set, and you'll have a solid idea of where you're strong, and also where you need more work. At that point, just re-doing the specific exercises on your weaker areas more frequently would be the thing to do.

Then after you get what you want from the set, I also occasionally hear that letting the product sit for a year or two, then listening again after you've taken more training or become a more skilled practitioner, produces completely new observations on how I'd used what I was teaching throughout the set (as all of us here would hope, of course, but not everyone picks up on it their first few times through the set).

Once in a while I get an email from someone who tells me they practiced their "bella signore's" for months, every day to & from work
whilst driving (& get funny looks headed the other way as well). These folks usually get pretty significant changes to their vocal pitch range -- sometimes adding more than an entire octave. And such changes take real time & daily practice. (I know of no magic bullets to expanding a pitch range any faster than this). Also, why would someone want to expand their vocal pitch range through a singing exercise, if you're just wanting to improve your spoken voice? Dynamic range. More dynamic & charismatic speakers use much greater vocal pitch range.

For someone who doesn't want/need to expand their vocal pitch range, maybe they just want to fuel up their embedded command usage. A few times through the set will likely be enough.

So I think it'll depend on what you notice, when going through the set the 1st time -- based on your own outcomes. My guess is, after going through it just once, you'll be able to approximate what kind of time/effort commitment your outcomes will take. As with everything, your mileage may vary.

Also -- I forgot Chris had a few sets in hand from a previous visit -- he'd be a great person to order from!

- Jonathan

Hi All,

I'd like to take a moment to express my deep and utter disdain and contempt for Jonathan Altfeld over this product.

Let me explain.

When people listen to me, sometimes within mere minutes of meeting me, they mention something about my voice, how soothing or resonant or hypnotic it is.

I attended a practice group not long ago as a speaker but I arrived early so I was just sitting out in the audience.

A couple of ladies came by and we exchanged a few words about the weather. I didn't know them and they didn't know me yet.

And, after just a couple of sentences from me about how nice the weather was, one of the ladies turned to the other lady and said, 'Is there something hypnotic about an American accent?'

And so, a lot of people ask me who I trained with for my voice. The answer? ...No one.

That's not to say I haven't trained my voice, but I had to take a long hard road of self training, because most of the training materials I'd found didn't do for my voice when I wanted them to do for my voice. I had to do years worth of experimentation, implementation and not a little time going in the wrong direction before he figured out that certain things are counterproductive or, worse yet, damaging to one's vocal abilities.

And, finally, after about a decade of beating my head against a wall, there I was with a resonant, compelling entrancing voice. I was an overnight success!

Now let's get back to this Altfeld character.

This guy has the audacity to come out with a product that can teach people who invest a few weeks of work into this material the functional equivalent of what took me years of trial and error to figure out.

That's weeks versus years. Seriously.

So what's my beef with Jonathan? Why in the hell wasn't he born about 15 years earlier than he was so that this product could've been released just at the time that I was looking for something like this and so that he could have saved me a good 10 years of having to design and implement my own damn program!

I'm sorry Jonathan, but some things are just hard to forgive.

Aww, what the hell, I don't blame you, I blame your parents.

As for the rest of you, if using your voice as a precision tool for state change or even just being the most compelling speaker in the room, not because of what you're saying but because of how you're saying it, is a goal that you find worth pursuing, I can't think of a better toolset for that. Hell, I can't think of any other appropriate tool set for that!

Get this, use it, practice and it works. Can't ask for better than that, can you?

I also enjoy being able to recommend something without equivocation and thankfully, Jonathan's given me an opportunity to do that with this product.

All right, I forgive your parents too, Jonathan.

Be Well,

Michael Perez

Certainly using one's own PC and turning both the mic & the speakers on...
Anyone know how to do this on a mac?
