Frank Farrely Review - Leeds 28/29th Oct -
Frank Farrely Review - Leeds 28/29th Oct Review of Frank Farrelly workshop in Leeds, 28-29th Oct 2006 – hosted by TranceformingNLP.
Having seen Frank Farrelly a few times now, I was aware of what to expect. At 74 years of age Frank has vast experience in the field of psychotherapy and change work and remains one of the true masters. When I first saw Frank, I was struck by the similarity with Richard Bandler and initially had to remind myself that Frank has been working in this way for many years before Bandler, Grinder and NLP came along.
This confusion seems common to others too. Often in the intervals I overheard people discussing Frank’s use of analogue marking, embedded commands, reframing and so on. Often, people new to the Provocative Therapy approach are keen to reduce down into NLP terms and at a different seminar near London I was told by one attendee that, “Clearly Frank Farrelly has trained to the highest level in NLP.” I very nearly choked on my tea.
Farrelly’s book, “Provocative Therapy” was published in 1972 and remains a classic, and a very, very funny book indeed.
Last weekend, Frank demonstrated Provocative Therapy in his typical fashion of “modules”. A module consists of a 25 minute one-to-session with a volunteer from the audience (there was no shortage of willing volunteers – there rarely is) followed by feedback from the client (Frank asks, “did you have any reactions to me in this [session]?”) followed by feedback from the audience.
Two typical reactions to the Provocative Therapy approach tend to be “I’m confused” and “I’m not sure what my problem is any more.” Contrary to many people’s expectations, clients on stage tend to report Frank as being “very gentle” with them, and invariably a session is filled with much laughter.
Nick and Tina at Tranceforming NLP (NLP Training in NLP Practitioner and NLP Master Practitioner. Provocative Therapy with Frank Farrelly) as always pay attention to every detail and Frank is back next April. From what I understand the training will consist of much supervised practice session trying out the patterns identified in the Provocative Therapy approach. Don’t miss this!
There is now video footage on youtube from last Friday here: [ame]http://youtube.com/watch?v=kfOxS6pCObk[/ame] and the information on Provocative Therapy - Home grows regularly. NLP mp3 NLP Hypnosis Downloads FREE also grows, and there are a number of audio recordings with Frank available for free.

For those who missed the event in 2006 there is a full CD recording of the whole weekend and some DVD footage also planned for future release -
I would say that Andrew's review is entirely accurate with my recollection of events of the course last week end.
Yes, don't miss the next one! http://www.livingahappylife.co.uk -
I didn't get to Frank's course this weekend, but have been twice in the past, & had the good fortune to have a session with him. Training with Frank was for me a 'whole new ballgame' experience - it presented me with an entirely new framework for understanding how people change, and was one of the most refreshing learning experiences since I did my first NLP Training back in 1998.
I would strongly encourage people to spend some time learning from Frank if they possible can. In NLP terms, this is akin to having an opportunity to train with the late, great Milton Erickson. Farrelly's influence on the NLP field (particularly with regards to the NLP 'attitude') has been enormous, and is rarel acknowledged.
For the serious student of NLP, training with Frank is a must ;-)

It was fantastic... if you get the chance to see him... GO!!!! -
Andrew,
Your review sent me back to 2003 when you, Jamie, Nick, me and others went to Bournemouth to experience Frank for full 4 days.
Again, as I told once Nick, thank you for the memories.

Sorry, it was 2004. -
As Andy has indicated Frank will be back April 28/29th to present for the first time in the UK an event that will include practising the PT therapeutic exercises. This will be a small group and previous NLP/therapeutic experience is essential to sign up at http://www.tranceformingnlp.com/prov...p_leeds_uk.php
We expect this to sell out again, so early booking is advised -
Why doesn't Frank Farrelly get credit if he's had such an influence on NLP? Erickson and Satir, Bateson, Fritz Perl, they all get mentioned often and I've never heard Farrelly mentioned on a CD or DVD. Is he being pushed out the picture? Or pushed in? -
Ben - he is getting credit, what else are these reviews, interviews etc. doing? -
Previous experience in PT Tina? Or in NLP? I'd love to see Frank in action but I have no experience in PT (other than unwitting ).

you would be welcommed on the PT seminar, Frank will demonstrate all to you. Previously on Franks seminars he has demonstrated PT by working with the delegates on the course, next April he will also set some PT exercises for everyone to take part in.
Ben - I found out about Frank and PT from Richard Bandler himself. Richard often speaks of Frank and he is mentioned in Frogs into Princes. I also have a recording from the 70's of Frank working with a client after which both Richard Bandler and John Grinder comment on what Frank was doing.

The book (Provocative Therapy)i by Frank Farrelly and Jeff Brandsma was one of the first books published by Richard Bandler in 1974 after he had set up Meta Publications.
I'd say that was a pretty strong endorsement.
You can get this book from, of course, Amazon. But you can also get it direct from Meta. Write, fone, fax, or e-mail to:
Fred Tappella,
Meta Publications,
PO Box 1910,
Capitola, CA 95010.
Tel.: 1-831-464-0254
Fax: 1-831-464-0517
e-mail: metapub@prodigy.net
You can also go to, and order from: http://www.meta-publications.com
Frank himself has his own website, with a complete bibliography, including details of the audio recordings from the 70s: http://www.provocativetherapy.com/book.html
Enjoy. -

Re: Frank Farrely Review - Leeds 28/29th Oct Just thought I would add to this, Ive read the book twice now and brought the CD's from the Leeds Semiar in 2005. My understand is def growing on what PT is and how to use it, in fact I have used it a couple of times on people without thinking about it.
I am hoping to rework my development budget to go to the next PT workshop this year, def is a goodun from the CD's. http://www.stepupspeakout.co.uk -

I saw Frank Farrelly out in New York with Doug O'Brien and Jonathan Altfdeld last year and he was fantastic!
Even for someone like me, an "interested observer" at best into the theraputic side of things, he was amazing to watch and got very very good results.
I would definitely recommed seeing him live - there's (almost) no comparison to the tapes - what an experience!
