Derren Brown - New Book Derren Brown - New Book
Now that Ottakas have been bought out by Waterstones, we have two Waterstones in Norwich 50 yards apart.
Well, I went to the other one. Stacked on the floor ready to be shelved in the Games and Pastimes (Magic) section were a pile of books with Derren Brown’s face on the cover.
Tricks of the Mind has only just been released (came in today apparently). It is over 300 pages long and has chapters on Magic, Memory Techniques, Hypnosis (and NLP of course), Unconscious Communication, Anti-Science…
I will reading through it tonight to see if Derren finally fesses up to being the psychic bedazzler that he obviously is, but pretending not to be. Little teaser...

I bought Tricks of the Mind for the plane but got distracted talking to a Crazy Canadian who wanted me to become an aromatherapist and set up a health food shop!!
I'll probably read it tomorrow instead.

I believe that trick of the mind is "Distraction technique" chris.....possibly known as "Sleight of Mouth !" haha !
Q. Should a Roman Therapist , take up Aromantherapy ?

Didnt realise planes could read?

Have read most of the book now. Not quite sure of what to make of it. And from Derren's comments in the preface and afterword I don't think he is totally comfortable with how it turned out.
Be interested in other peoples' comments.

Re: Derren Brown - New Book
I know this is a bit of a dormant thread but.......
I've just finished Tricks of the Mind; it's a very entertaining tour through mentalism, memory, hypnosis, spiritualism, religion and NLP. Brown's tone varies from comical arrogance to self-depreciation with plenty of OTT phrases that Stephen Fry would be proud of.
He is clearly distancing himself from NLP, and takes a number of pot-shots , but on the other hand he clearly respects Bandler and recommends a few NLP patterns. But the best reason to read it is that it's funny, especially the anecdote about hypnotising his friend to think there was a rhino in his room at the student halls of residence.
