cognitive research for unconscious finger signals

Hello folks,

This 1st year Psych subject is interesting, designing research, now

Hypothesis: Brain activity during unconscious movement of a finger signal is different than brain activity during conscious movement. Assumption: unconscious finger signals use different brain process than conscious finger signals.

If a researcher person can create in another, finger signals, unconscious, for yes and, no, then brain activity can be recorded via fMRI or PET scans, right?

Secondly, a person can consciously move their finger, and brain activity can be recorded similarly.

However, what are the variables that need to be controlled to weed out any variables that could interfer or collude the results of what brain area is being used?
  • Calibrate yes & no vebally using fMRI or PET
This is not a research assignment, it's something of personal interest, perhaps a spark of inspiration from within.

Best,

Rob Gronbeck

P.S. Has anyone noticed the similarity in direct marketing terms, methodology "testing" "control" "market selects" and behaviourist research languaging "control groups" "testing hypnothesis" "subject selects"...hmmm...could this have something to do with 'famous behaviour research scientist J.B. Watson moving into advertising? James Lavers, can you shed any light on my speculation here?
