Posts: 4 | | | NLP for Teachers I wondered if anyone in education has reviewed or is using the book 'NLP for Teachers'? From what I can gather from the webiste NLP for Teachers - About the book there is a lot of material that is common to most introductory NLP books. Has anyone seen the teaching specific materials ?
As term has just started, I have already begun my use of NLP by becoming more aware of my existing verbal/body language (which sometimes has not been useful to either my students or me). I'm really using language patterns to rephrase my previous 'commands' and am much more aware of my body language and signs of rapport. It is great fun and is a real challenge as you are thinking on your feet in a live group situation - just like the rest of real life?
I have also done an activity to identify students', other adults' and my own primary representational system. It has been great fun and is hopefully giving me useful knowledge to work with.
It would be great to know of any other teachers doing similar work ... James | | | | Message posted: 5th Sep 08, 07:33 pm

Somewhere here from a couple of years ago is a link to results of a study done in some British schools where teachers used NLP skills in the classroom. Searching for Kate's posts should get you there.
I think teachers are potentiall the most important people in the world, and I love knowing some of them are using NLP to connect better with students. You rock. | | | | Message posted: 5th Sep 08, 07:34 pm

Check out my thread, which these days is sort of a running commentary on my work in elementary music, as it relates to NLP: NLP Resources for Elementary Education

I also know that Kate Benson is writing a book on NLP in Education but not sure when the publication date is. I work in education and plan on running a Practitioner course for NLP in Education in January.

Posts: 55 | | | Re: NLP for Teachers So will I phil. Kate is outstanding in the field of NLP in Education. I did my practitioner and Master Practitioner with her and she is going to be doing some work on my prac course I am running in January. I would recommend her every step of the way.
Am busy reading Richard's new book. Fantastic. I can just picture him saying everything. It is like having a conversation with him.

It's funny how that works. I just recently finished reading Rubin Battino's Book Expectation-Very-Brief-Therapy-Book [ Amazon UK | Amazon US]
and practically every word on the page transferred into his voice, except for when he quoted someone else. I could do that easily because of the work I've done with Rubin. It made the book much more interesting and fun! That man has a delightful wit and sense of humor.

I have read NLP for Teachers. It is a good introductory book and will give teachers an introduction to NLP and the classroom. It doesn't have anything really new in it but is does have some teaching applications that some people will not have come across.
I was asked to review it but didn't think that would be very fair as I am engrossed in my book on education with Richard Bandler -so I will leave it to others to review it.
Its interesting for us teachers- Education and NLP is suddenly flavour of the month. I am wondering though of all the courses being run how many of the people running them know what it is like being in a classroom for 30 hours etc!

You make a valid point. Real-world experience (like being in the classroom for 30 hours) is so different than theory.
If it wouldn't be revealing too much before the publication of your book, would you take a moment to let us know what you think are the 1 or 2 most important NLP skills in the classroom? And why?
I'm not a teacher, but I work at a university and I am responsible for developing a few student workers each semester. I feel comfortable in what I am offering from a business skills development perspective (within the framework of their positions), but I am always looking for ways to improve my skills.
I would be curious if any of the skills you deem most important for a classroom teacher might, in any way, be skills that could be transferred to an office/coaching scenario?
Thanks in advance for your comments.
Sincerely,

| That would seem a very valid point, across all contexts of our life. | | | | Message posted: 7th Sep 08, 10:36 pm

I think one of the most important keys is that learning is state related. Whatever we learn is glued to the state we learnt it in. So the teachers job is to make sure that the state the person learns in, is the optimum state for that learning. We can now calibrate very acurately the best learning states - for many learnings this is relaxed alertness. There are others for different learnings.
The second key is controlling All or as many of the variables as possible. The room, layout, state of students, pace, unconscious learning, conscious learning, learning, recall, etc. The teacher who controls the maximum number of variables maximises learning.
Thats my best shot for a sunday night
xx

Coaches especially sports coaches have been ahead of the game and teachers are learning from coaches. Its exciting to exchange experiences in the two areas | | | | Message posted: 7th Sep 08, 10:55 pm

I dare say that I am going to learn more about NLP from being in the classroom this year than any other way, hands down!
Those children teach ME! And each one of them has something different and fascinating that I can learn...
