Wendy,

That book looks great. Thank you!

Using NLP in education makes so much sense to me. The more I learn, the more invaluable it seems.

Have a great day, everyone!

Phil

Re: NLP Resources for Elementary Education

Glad you find it helpful Phil. I am passionate about teaching and learning and using NLP in Education. It would be interesting to hear more about how it is going for you in elementary education. I am currently working in Higher Education but have also worked in Further Education. I use NLP as much as possible.

Re: NLP Resources for Elementary Education

NLP is sneaking into my school, Wendy! I had a conversation with a special needs teacher in the copy room, relating to her my fascinating experiences about eye accessing cues. She was intrigued.

The principal, eavesdropping as she walked by, must have been impressed. "Mr. Adams, you're so smart!!!" She said.

Either that, or she was just buttering me up for something else later on. Either way, it works!

Any way, I feel a presentation at staff meeting coming on eventually...

Phil,

I think you should be radical and suggest running a Practitioner course for NLP in Education in your school. I will volunteer to come and run it :-). Keep up the good work

Re: NLP Resources for Elementary Education

Wendy,

You would come all the way to Ohio? COOL!

I had the most amazing experience yesterday while teaching the children. I began to notice left and right how I was using NLP with them, and I hand't even noticed that I did it before! I'm pretty sure I've been using a lot of these techniques for years, but now, with a little knowledge, it is smacking me in the face!

I taught them a little pattern for memorization of information that I was using to learn their names, and some of those kids were completely fascinated by it! It was very playful and fun, and the things we were able to do in a short time...well, I'm confident that I've already had a huge impact on their future learning! When one class' teacher picked them up at the end of the lesson, I told her that I showed them eleven ways to quickly and easily commit something to memory in no time, and you should have seen her eyes bug out! With a twinkle in my eye, I looked at the students and said, "now you're going to have to show her how to do that, aren't you?"

I think everyone should have this much fun on the job!

Phil, This is brialliant and an inspirational example of how NLP can support learning and learning can be fun. If we all instill such a sense of fun in our students then our jobs would be a breeze.

Thanks for sharing

Wendy

Wendy,

I just did an incredible VAKOG introduction lesson with a group of gifted and talented 4th and 5th graders. Some of them were totally into it, and some of them acted like they didn't know what hit them, but they were all learning, for sure!

Life should be this fun for everyone!

Re: NLP Resources for Elementary Education

I had the COOLEST experience today...

I was teaching a class of fifth-graders this afternoon, and I asked one of them a question. He looked up and to his right. After he finished his answer, I said, "do you know how you came up with that answer?" He said, "I don't have the slightest idea!"

My reply was, "you made a picture in your head."

You should have seen his eyeballs bug out as he said, "HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT???"

One kid said, "Mr. Adams is a mindreader," and another very observant girl said, "no, he just watched his eyes..." Smart girl, she was! I said nothing. They all looked at me, and I said, "I don't give away all my secrects on the first lesson!" That made 'em wonder...

And I'm only getting started with the fun!

Phil,

Keep the stories coming. This is such an encouragement. Although we all know NLP works in education it is great to hear tales from the chalkface so to speak. I haven't started teaching yet but will keep you posted when I do. I am teaching a group of adults later in the month, teaching them how to teach. Great fun. Our work is awesome, but even more awesome when we involve NLP.

Phil, could you say what age group you teach, as I work in Britain and am not really familiar with the age of children in Elementary schools. It would be useful, when picturing what you are doing.

Re: NLP Resources for Elementary Education

Wendy,

Ages 5-11.

By the way, this morning, here's what I've done so far...

Second graders (seven-year-olds):

--helped one boy anchor memory state (helped him discover that when he snaps his finger, he gets "unstuck" and remembers!)

submodalities with class--"playing a tape recorder in your head" to remember, looking at the person who delivered the information, and then remembering their face when you wish to recall, just to name a couple.

I am having so much fun!

More later...

On the subject NLP resouces for education, I am half way through reading NLP for teachers at the moment......and I am impressed so far.......it gives some great tips and advice about how to use NLP methods in the class room....

What I really like is that the writers back up what they are saying by quoting proven scientific research....

Thanks, Lenny!

My rule has been to try to get books that are more than $20 at the library or through ILL (since I've bought so many books this year!), but I think I may break the rule for this one, since I already tried to get it through ILL and was unable.

You give a good review, so it is influencing me to have a more flexible rule...

Thank you for your kind words, Nadia.

Life is so good and rich every day! Even at my most challenging moments (or sometimes especially at my most challenging moments) I find my work beyond delightful.

Today, after working with the 5th graders yesterday on memorization techniques, one boy with great pride showed me his perfect spelling test! Now THAT really made my day!
