I’ve been thinking lately, like you do about certain NLP applications and how they seem to have integrated into my daily life in profound ways. It got me thinking back to when I was on a training with John Grinder, he stated, that the techniques he was teaching us we were to just practise them for a couple of weeks and then forget about them. I remember wondering at the time, what does he mean? Or what does that mean to me?
Then on discussion forums I read the six step reframe being utilised conversationally and covertly with great fascination. I started wondering about conversational change and the way internal dialogue works. I came to the realisation that on a daily basis I am applying some of the NLP techniques automatically on myself. Before I go any further I am not talking about meta-modelling my own internal dialogue or perceptual positions, I mean I was told that these were techniques that could be self applied. It’s the others I’m talking about
Now, I imagine there are people out there thinking so what, was the big deal about that? however, to me the realisation was profound. some people explain how it is difficult to apply timeline work to oneself due largely to the conscious mind processes, But what about unconscious self application with the conscious realisation after the work is done. This has happened to me on a few occasions now and only later in the day have I realised what has actually occurred.
I could go into more detail however, it’s possibly beyond the scope of this thread. I suppose I’m just thinking out loud and looking for some voices, opinions on where their thoughts are with regards to the self application of NLP techniques.
So, back to my training with John Grinder that I was thinking back to? Oh yes. What are the learnings of that event? the learnings which will allow me to let go of any pre-conceived notions that I had, easily and effortlessly
