    Mantaining Attention

Hi, I have a problem lately. I can't seem to keep my attention focused on what i'm doing at the moment. I have peoblems when reading, studying and in some other areas. I have a tendency to listen to music and daydream, while sitting in my chair reading pages and not remembering anything. I must confess that my social life could be better. What can I do?
I start a thing, for example today i was watching a Bandler video, The Bandler Effect, watched the first 18 minutes and then got bored and came to this forum, and open my winamp. Some would say that is multitasking, and if it is how could i channel it in a productive direction?
I realise that sitting all day long in front of my comp isn't gonna help me, it's bad, very bad. Yes i surf the net too much.

    Re: Mantaining Attention

Could it be that you just aren't interested enough to stay focussed?

Think of something that you did where the time just seemed to fly past as if in a dream because you were so involved.

I don't believe you can force yourself to stay focussed, but you can change the way you perceive it so that you want to.

Perhaps you need a better story. The subject you are studying may not draw you in yet, find someone who is passionate about your subject and figure out how it would be to look at the world in the way they do.

What has changed lately since you were able to do these things?

When choosing between two evils, I always like to try the one I’ve never tried before.

Something interfered with my life: college. I have never had a girlfriend nor close friends and suddenly i woke up with like 150 girls as mates(aka colleagues). I fell for a girl, she had a boyfriend, i had my chances with her, never took advantage of it( a result of being so f*king inexperienced), depression, bad results on school. Because of this my attenion is flying away every 5 minutes. I try redirectiong it to something more constructive. School is over now and i had plans to learn the full anatomy and biophisycs to be able to learn neuropsychology. I know all this drama of mine is so stupid i would laugh at myself. I tried speaking with my brother's wife. It helped to a certain point, until she let me see that from now on it's up to me to do the hard work. My main goal now is to become a NLP Practitioner, and finish college. I hope this is detailed enough. Sorry my possible misspeling.
I like almost all what i'm studying atm. I find NLP and neurology very interesting, but when i start watching or reading materials after a half an hour or so i get bored and quit.

Later Edit: I read a material now and found out that all my issues were caused by depression

Depression is not a living thing and cannot do anything in and of itself nor is it an inanimate object you cannot buy a kilo of depression.

Your issues come all from you and your perceptions influenced by previous experiences.

It is all too easy to dissassociate from owning your problems and blame something or someone and put it outside of your sphere of influence.

Stand up take personal ownership for your probelms and do something about them.

    Re: Mantaining Attention

I don't think you can "have" depression any more than you can "have" happiness. Don't put too much weight in someone's opinion that you "have" something that isn't a "thing" at all.

You can do things in a depressed way, and you can do things happily, and lots of other ways. And if the way you're doing things now isn't working for you, you can learn to do something different, because learning is as natural for you as breathing - it's something you do every moment you're alive.

Congratulations on setting out to make things better for yourself.

    Re: Mantaining Attention

Meditation can be a great help in improving focus and concentration.

There's a lot of info about meditation (and deep relaxation) on the web, and there are some good books too. You may want to take a look at our website as well, www.Meditations-UK.com.

Some types of physical exercise, such as yoga and t'ai chi, can also help with attention issues.

If your inability to focus is affecting your studying, then you certainly should deal with it in one way or another.

    All the best.

NLP is best experienced by going on a training... after that the books and materials will all make more sense and learnings easier to maintain your focus in something that you can really see the idea behind it. With your main goal being an NLP practitioner, book yourself on a course and the rest will be easy
