NLP Worked for Thumb Sucking but Not for Trich. Any Ideas?
Hi everyone!
Hope your enjoying your day!
I'm Victoria. I'm 25 and I live in London. I love NLP and think that it is just amazing. Once I have the money to train I'm going to because I would love to help spread the message (helping lots of people along the way!).
I first stumbled across NLP in March this year. I had had trichotilliomania or 'trich' (compulsive hair pulling which in my case manifested in eyebrow rubbing) for about 8 years. On one desperate night I was doing a google search and found a forum which mentioned NLP.
By August this year I had saved up enough money to do a change programme with a UK based NLP practitioner. The guy I was recommended (by the Paul McKenna helpline) is very talented, and works directly with Richard Bandler and Paul McKenna when they are in the UK.
My programme consisted of two sessions.
I also sucked my thumb prior to the programme and (being as it seemed to have some connections to the trich), I asked the practitioner if he could deal with this two.
Well its now December and I haven't sucked my thumb since. The only thing is, that around a month ago I started rubbing my eyebrows again.
I was granted a temporary reprieve. After a week of rubbing again, I did some of the exercises in Richard Bandler's new book and the rubbing stopped for about four days. I've tried them again but they dont seem to be working.
Its very interesting that the thumb sucking NLP has worked well while the eyebrow rubbing has not. Especially since one would assume that the neural pathway for thumbsucking (which had been going on for 25 years) must have been far stronger than the eyebrow rubbing pathway (which had been going on for 8 years).
Can anyone offer me any tips on exercises to use NLP to get rid of the trich again? I would be so very grateful!
Thanks for your time and interest.
Vic

Re: NLP Worked for Thumb Sucking but Not for Trich. Any Ideas?
Hi Victoria,
Welcome to the site and it is great to hear about your experiences regarding the positives NLP has bought you. To be honest I am a little worried about giving you any specific advice as I would hate to tinker with any progress you have made already, have you considered going back to your initial therapist? If I were you I'd be back to them for some more of the good stuff.
In the mean time, think back, how did know you first knew you had the ability to control your trichotilliomania. How does that feel?
Thanks
Matt
