I Need Help with a Case of Nasty Smells=bad Reaction

This client has given me permission to seek help with this issue, they have asked others, but others have laughed at her and I really want to help out..

Here is some extracts of the conversation we had about the 'problem'...

All suggestions would be of use:

"i have a really weak stomach n the slightest thing makes me reach/gag/ n b sick! Specially like nasty body smells n even jus seeing sum1 in the park with their doggy poo bag in their hand sets me off. n this is no joke n becoming a nightmare 4 me.

its specially embarrassing wen i'm out in shopping centres like it did last week, & when i'm out clubbing, people think i'm drunk & i'm not!!! c my prob?! n thank u! n don't go makin no jokes bout this pls, can c it now, "jus been asked the most silliest question"! hahaha!

ummm well, dont even have 2 c sumthing, jus smell it, or even hear sum1 talkin bout it, i was sick over my son when changing his nappy when he was a baby 2, this has gone on for years but got worse since i had surgery on my nose, sorry, u probly think i'm a right loon! but i really cant cope with it much more!"

Thank you in advance for your time guys..

Disgust is a valuable thing. It's one of the seven "universal" emotions identified by Eckman et al. We evolved to have it. It's saved our species. It's normal, and it's normative. What she's describing, though, is unusual.

I'd want to ask her if it's always been this way or if there was a time when it became this way.

Have I updated the NLPhilia Blog lately?

I did.. she stated that she cannot remember when it started... and that it's been like this for ages..

Sadly, that doesn't mean it can't be traced to a specific event. It only means that if there was one, she can't remember it. So that path is no good for now.

Does she, by any chance, have an exceptionally acute sense of smell? (How is she with neutral or pleasant odors?)

Are any of her other senses hyper-sensitive?

How are you with trance work? This might be your simplest route.

What kind of surgery did she have on her nose?

Wow. It was so painful reading the line noise that she passes off for communication that I completely overlooked that.

    Hi Darren,

I agree that this presents as an unusual problem in terms of content, but that does not mean that the underlying construct cannot be well enough understood to come up with a simple intervention, in the end.

I feel that you, and we on the forum lack the key pieces of information as yet, though the nose surgery is interesting.

You are the one who has had contact with her. What are your thoughts and instincts ? What have you already tried with her ? What other help has she had ? What does she want as a well formed outcome ? Logically I can guess what she wants, but well formed conditions for that are not so obvious. Do you see what I mean ?

"i have a really weak stomach n the slightest thing makes me reach/gag/ n b sick!

This reads like a limiting belief to me, ripe for the picking ! Is her stomach really weak ? Sounds like it's working overtime to me ! Like Michael points out, what is happening is not so much "bad" as "normal", but extreme and exaggerated perhaps. What kind of smells does she like, and what effect do they have on her ?

.. she stated that she cannot remember when it started... and that it's been like this for ages..
So the behaviour has a long history. If she cannot remember when it started, perhaps the origin lies in her childhood ? Again I agree with Michael,

How are you with trance work? This might be your simplest route.
I am glad you have her consent to raise this on the forum. Given all the information so far, I would be interested in her family background and particularly the relationships she had as a child with her parents. I am wondering whose belief this is and where it came from, especially if she has no clear triggering event of her own.

I am assuming that the root cause of this is psychological rather than biological. BTW, has she ever been genuinely poisoned per chance ? Just a thought.

Sorry in a way to just give you a list of questions more than anything else at this point in time, but I have a strong feeling that to be more usefully suggestive, I need to digest more information about this one first.

    Regards

    MH

here are basically 2-3 different strategies or rather strategy trigger points, she describes...

    G -> (smelling the smell)
V -> (..seeing someone in the park)
    A -> (…hearing someone talk about)

So what has to be true for her that the different stimulus’s end up with the same result… or don’t they…

    Have fun

Really bad nose bleed as a child.. her brother also.. she has had to be '‘Quarterlised’, which is something they do to kids who keep having nosebleeds (i do not know what that is, she was in trance and i just let her flow..)

Has Stomach ulcer, not been too bad.. got it 4-5years ago..

First year of seconday-12, she saw two boys sitting across room, from each other. They spat on their rulers and flicked it at each... Flem on rulers is a picture she always has in her mind.. at the time, it made vomit come up into her nose, sense the'n, she has had a fear of sick coming through her nose or mouth..

Nose broken at work. They paid for it to be fixed, she had 'Specto rinho plasty'

Nothing with pleasant odours, she is not hyper sensitive, Loves her perfume. 'Gucci', 'versace', 'calvin klein'

Its mainly 'shit' or 'vomit 'smells, humans and animal.. throws up over baby, throws up at work...

I have a feeling this goes back further than age 12.. I explained to her the concept of an unconscious mind and how it may have learnt how to behave like this on cue.. I have asked to meet her..

Thinking to time-line to earlier memories.. she wouldn't stop insulting herself.. I told her that i will only work with her if she becomes aware of that habit and notices it when she does it and suggested that she will start hearing my voice everytime she does it...

I have a uniquie modus operandi.. but i get results.. usually.. just a bit daunted by this one...
