NLP Processes for Helping with Epilepsy

    Hi,

I recently met a school buddy of mine and came to know that his daughter (13 months old) is having convulsion attacks.

Based on recent test results doctors are indicating a genetic mutation (sodium channel) as the cause for the seizures.

The child is only 13 months old and hence typical behavioral interventions of the kind Bandler talks don't exactly fit into this situation.

I would like to be able to help my friend and his child. Can anyone point me to any inputs?

    Thanks & Regards,

    - Anil

Hi Anil. The exact nature of how sodium channel mutations cause a seizure are still not known and the type of seizure can vary significantly from person to person. I'd say your starting point here is to help the parents feel as comfortable as they can with this.

Also to do some basic behavioural observations e.g. what was happening before a seizure. The reason for this is that there is some evidence to suggest that stress can precipitate a seizure and noting if there are any specific precipitants may help to reduce these over time.

Theres also a few little things the parents can do post seizure to re-orient the child in time and place so as to reduce any distress caused by this e.g. get the child to take in sensory information about the location and give a concept of time if possible by linking to an activity with a set time e.g.lunch, etc.

    Hi Anil

This is not NLP but having struggled with epilepsy myself the issue is dear to my heart.

I would suggest seeing a really good acupuncturist. This is possible with a small child. Just be sure you get someone really good. I know such people in the states (US) but could not help you in the UK.

I would also check with the epilepsy society folks.

Good luck! I hope you will let us know what you do and what happens.

    Best

    Renee

    Hi Renee,

Thanks for the inputs. I will look up the inputs and pass it on to my friends. Although so far my involvement in helping them is to the extent of having offered to help them. They continue to pursue discussions with their doctors.

Much as I would like to help them, it is still their decision to choose.

    Thanks and regards,

    - Anil

    Hi Anil

Understood. If you want to connect as this progresses on any issue around the epilepsy feel free to drop a PM. It must be difficult watching a child so young suffering with this condition. They have a good friend
