    Changing Young Minds

This is my first thread here, so hi to all on NLP connected.

I've been working with young people in various projects and life situations over the past few years but mainly in the mainstream organisations which are out there to "care for young people".

Im now working in a secure unit and work with youngsters with pretty grim ( to me)pasts, be it because of the crimes they commit the crimes commited against them or just the way their realities are as a result of their life.

Im an NLP master practioner and use the skills Ive learnt the best I can within my work setting, there is not much flexibility though and thats not from the young people. Its the systems and setups they have which dont allow for much change very quickly and therefore I see the same people do the same things and get the same results , which are either not working or are in my opinion not optimistic enough Einstien and Insanity comes to mind.

I have many Ideas myself and was wondering what others thoughts are and If anyone knows of other innovative projects that are going on
    and getting great results ??

    Thanks

    Re: Changing Young Minds

Thanks for an interesting and thoughtful thread Leonne. It is great work you do although very challengeing.
My first thoughts are, that you can firstly work with the kids on an individual basis and some aims might be to; firstly mangage your state really well, so that you become a beacon for them whatever the awful things are that are going on; secondly build trust so that even within the situation they know you are reliable. Then install hope big time. Hope that they can change, hope that the future will be brighter, hope that life will be better when they make the changes for themselves. Then innoculate like crazy against any negation of these beliefs from other staff!
Over time by changing the world one person at a time the organisation itself may begin to notice the difference you are making and wonder what it is that you are doing that is successful!

There are others out there working with NLP in organisations with unhelpful cultures and it will be good to hear from them to see how they go about it.
We are changing the school system in this way and so I am sure the same can be true in other sectors.
    Hold the vision Leonne

    Re: Changing Young Minds

Thanks Kate, Its encouraging to know that there are people like yourself making a big difference in the mainstream organisation, and have the belief that we can do a whole lot more.

I agree with all your comments and that is exactly what I've been thinking and hopefully doing.

The most difficult part of it is innoculating against counter and I believe unusefull beliefs because unfortunatley there seems to be alot more people in this sector who dont believe in the ability of others to change and further more the ability of themselves to change it.

For me awareness is the key, to raise awareness of the unlimited posibilities, If we dont know how to do something it doesnt mean it cant be done.

And that is exactly why Im searching here for Ideas of what is being done and how I can make better and faster progress in what Im doing.
