Hi. Local Connections
Hi
I've just joined and want to introduce myself.
I'm Katie I live in South Woodford, East London E18 and am in the middle of completing my Masters Practitioner with ITS.
I'm particularly interested in getting people to shout about their 'problems'. Let's collapse the taboo - we've all got them - let's make our lives more fulfulling and do something positive about them.
I'm also passionate about getting this message across to everyone not just those who can 'afford it'. Not sure how yet as NHS seem so blinkered to NLP and its merits!!
SO..........as my first message I'm looking for:
1. Any suggestions for getting into NHS?? I have one lead but they need evidence...........again any suggestions??
2. Looking for NLPer locally. Are you nearby???
Look forward to hearing ffrom you.

Re: Hi. Local Connections
Katie,
I got into my local PCT through the college that I lecture in. I suggest that you contact your local FE college and if they provide nursing trainings etc this could be a good conduit into the system as they will have contacts at senior level.
I am not local to you as I am in SE9 (other side of the river) but good luck anyway and welcome to the forum..

Re: Hi. Local Connections
Thanks Jason for that.
That sounds like a good way in.
Do you know who would be the person in the PCT that would be responsible for making decisions about using NLP in the borough??
SE9 - I grew up in leafy SE3
Thanks

Re: Hi. Local Connections
Depends on how you want to introduce NLP to them.... If it is in regards to internal use then someone in the HR directorate.
If you are thinking about it as a referal for therapy (counselling etc.) then this is usually devolved to the local GPs or the inhouse Psychiatric department....
AAH I know the whole SE3 area very well

Thanks Jason.
It would be about referrrals from GPs that I want.
But I don't just want those that are prepared to pay privately through referrals I want the NHS to pay me so that the everyday person doesn't have to. That sounds like a big beast doesn't it! I don't know how much knowledge you have of the NHS - mine is practically zero - Any idea how I could make this happen??
Heven't been back to Blackheath for ages, but it was a lovely place to grew up.
Thanks
Katie

Re: Hi. Local Connections
Hi Katie
This is a big ask the NHS and GPs tend to refer to counselling agencies or call in a part time counsellor and if you are not BACP or UKCP registered I think it is improbable they would consider you. I applaud your sentiments and from personal experience can tell you that getting it for free or at a really reasonable rate would not assist your clients to value what they are getting. Milton Friedman said there is no such thing as a free lunch and he was right.
I teach NLP in an FE college and managed to charge just £350 for 8day prac training and all I got asked was is this cheap because this is not as good as the other trainings!
I would start with the hospital ask there and see what sort of response you get.
Good luck

I personally found Mr. Pearson's training to be of the highest quality. It is informative, helpful, and a tremendous value due to the humble amount he charges. He could easily charge ten times the amount and be justified in doing so. I know there are some trainers who are only in it for the money and only put all they've got into the training if they are anticipating a large payday. Not Jason. He does it for the love and to help others. He is a truly altruistic man.

Yes pricing is a difficult subject I know.
I am going to battle on and approach GPs with a different approach I think - not sure how yet. I don't think it's imposssible, especially if the practise manager or GP has had personal experience of NLP.
I've noticed on the internet that a northern based company are providing services to a few NHS PCTs - so if they can do it I can!!
Thanks for your help.

Re: Hi. Local Connections
Katie,
What might lend credibility to an approach to NHS reps is to cite some pro-NLP work from inside the medical world. There is a book called "Magic In Practice" which is written by a medical practitioner (Garner Thomson) and is the flagship book for the Society of Medical NLP.
Cheers

Brilliant.
Thanks Steve very much for that little Gem. I'll have a look for it.
I've found it quite difficult to find actual evidence - which I know will hold more ground with the NHS.
Have a good weekend
Katie
