Hello from Brighton
Hi folks, my name's Robin. I've been hanging out in the forum for a while and I've made a couple of posts but I guess i was getting a feel for how things work around here.
It's fantastic that we have such a fine collection of contributors and that experience is reflected in the quality of the posts. I find it hard sometimes to sort out the quality from the chaff though. There are some threads that you just wish everyone would stop!
I like looking for well formed questions that I can provide a useful answer for, or add something to what has already been said in the thread. I enjoy the writing practise that it gives me and the feedback when it works.
My biggest question about NLP at the moment is what the field will look like in 10 years time, or 20. Kuhn wrote that each successive paradigm takes a generation to take hold, because the old guard hang onto their old ways.
I'm thinking at the moment about how to re contextualise the methodology and applications of NLP for the creative industries, but before I do that I thought it would be useful to ask, "What the hell does that mean exactly?"
I'm imagining a gregory bates style third position on nlp from an anthropological and psychological perspective. the intention would be to tease out how the social origins of NLP inform the prevalent "culture" of NLP
We could start by taking a series of filters and looking through them
for example:
NLP as an academic field.
NLP as therapy
NLP as a commercial enterprise
NLP as a Charismatic cult
NLP as self development
NLP as performance psychology
NLP as knowledge engineering
Ok, enough abstraction. If there is anyone who can see where I'm going with this and feels they could help out I'll start a thread.
B.T.W I'd love to see this forum go WEB 2.00 I get lots of news and forum updates delivered by RSS feeds in Google Reader, saves hours.
I look forward to reading your posts.
Robin
