Hello from Hecky

Hi all. I have been thinking about dipping into NLP for a while. I've read a bit about it and went to one of the conferences a few years ago.

I want to improve the way I communicate with others. I'm a nervy introverted type of person and I work in a field where I need to be loud, charismatic and able to argue a point. But I struggle with this and its holding me back. I want to change this but don't know what to do.

NLP intrigues me but I'm not fully convinced. What puts me off is:

the cost
does this actually work? It does all seem too good to be true.
Some of the promotion of NLP seems to make it sound like it can cure anything.
The criticisms I've seen on the web.
Part of me thinks people like the type Ive described are born not made. You've either got it or you've not.

Can anyone help me as I'm not sure what to do? I want to improve but am wary about spending hundreds of pounds on something that may not work.

Thank you,

Hi Mate

Starting with the cost thingy, have a look here: The Art and Science of NLP excellence

I'm going to a 2 day course on December 1st and 2nd and it's FREE.

I think that you should book yourself onto the same course as me and see how you feel afterwards. You sound as if you really need this, so why not give it a go? Hey, if you can get to the same course as me AND on the same dates, at least you will sort-of 'know someone'.

Regards

John

Hi Hecky!

As above, start with the free course! Youre sceptism is natural and shared by many initially. Learning about NLP is essentially learning about yourself and many aspects about how you function. What you get from it is entirely up to you - and you may find its definately not a spectator sport! If you wait till you are 'fully convinced'....you may be waiting forever! ....I you are waiting to 'experience' what it's about...get going!! Lots of people have found it life changing (as have I). While busy figuring out 'costs' - start asking yourself some questions like... 'what will it 'cost' me to perhaps miss out on what COULD be one of my lifes most significant learning experiences? .... Hope this helps! No one is here to 'sell' you on anything....but I'm sure we'd all agree there is a joy that has come from this learning that is yours to share - should you choose it! Bon Voyage!

No probs, mate. If you DO get onto the same course dates as me (Dec 1st and 2nd) let me know, I might be able to help with accommodation for stopping over on the monday night.

John
