Better Strategy for Reading

Hi,

I've just dipped my toe into NLP, so I'm not familiar with who does what and what's possible etc. My desire is to learn to read a lot better -- faster with maintained understanding. I read at about 200 words per minute. My strategy involves reading to myself in my head, and as I understand it, it is possible to go from visual directly to understanding. I just don't know how to take myself there.

Can anyone here recommend a UK based practitioner that could help me with this?

Many thanks,
Christina

Hi Christina,

I read at around 750-1000 wpm depending on the text, and the book I always thank for teaching me that skill is Tony Buzan's speed reading book.

There are some pretty expensive speed reading courses out there, and they may of course be wonderful, but as a first port of call I'd recommend the Tony Buzan book - very affordable and very effective .

All the best,

Joe

I have a tip too - only read books you want to read.

Make a pile of the books you should read - and forget about them, for now anyway. Only read the ones you really want to read.

I used to think I was rubbish at reading because I'd read a few pages and wander off. But every now and then I'd get a book and read all of it in one go. And after that happened a few times, I wondered why sometimes I read big long books in a couple of hours and other times it takes me a year of hard work to chug through a short book.

Now I only read books I want to read - and it's easy.

Hi Christina,

Reading about 200 wpm is about the average speed of an adult reading, so that's good. But if your desire is to learn to read a lot faster with maintained understanding, if this is your desire maybe look into PhotoReading.

If you have any questions regarding the course/techniques please give me a call.
