The Life Photo

While I was sitting in the park today having lunch with some friends, we noticed a lot of people taking photographs of the things around them.
Some were taking pictures of the grass, others of the statues and some just taking pictures of their friends and family against historical buildings.

There was one girl who was taking pictures of her feet around different parts of the park.

While we were having a bit of a laugh and a joke at the idea that people might want to take pictures of things that to us, seemed relatively unimportant, I asked my friends the question:

If you were to take a still picture that represented your life, what would that picture be like?

We all thought about it for a few minutes before coming back with some silly and some more meaningful answers which includes things like: An anchor representing how i hold things down and keep things secure, A man leaping from a cliff into freedom, a man chained to a wall, a ball of energy spreading across a globe.
I then asked:

If you could make the picture of your life the most inspiring an amazing thing ever, what would you change?

So here's the experiment:
  1. Ask yourself the question: If I was to take a still picture that represented my life, what would that picture be like?
  2. Notice the content of the picture, the colours, the "meaning" or metaphor you place behind that image and the feelings it conjures up.
  3. Ask yourself the second question: If I could make the picture of my life the most inspiring and desirable thing for myself, what would that be like?
  4. Notice the difference between what your original picture was like and what this new picture is like then...
  5. Ask yourself... What am I going to do to make my life more like the picture I want it too be?
As always, I look forward to your feedback

Hi Jamie

Thanks for the missing piece of the puzzle, I have been working on changing my self image and have been working with the new reality generator pattern and have created the new me I want to become and seeing how I move, seeing what I see and feeling what it feels like to be the new me. Currently I am refining and making finer distinctions of what I want and as you mentioned to make it more inspiring.

Your exercise has given me the a lot of food for though, as I had never considered to meaning/metaphor within these scenes , very nice.

The most important part which i often ommit is question in the 5th step "What am I going to do to make my life more like the picture?"

Thanks for one of those little gold nuggets that appear out of nowhere that make huge difference.

No wonder, here I was feeling so much better but apart from feeling great not much else was changing. I was begining to wonder why it was taking me so long, .

I had the dream but was just expecting that as my new behaviours became habitual this would allow my new reality to just happen without any planning. I remember now there's this thing called well defined outcomes.

Time to do some goal setting to highlight the things that I can take action on, a simple point yet one that in this case I had overlooked. The funny thing is that the new me was dressed a certain way yet my wardrobe doesn't have any of these garments, I saw myself going to certain functions yet I had not looked into when and where they were being held.

Have a great day

Frederic

Frederic !

Sounds like you've had a great time playing with this one

Sometimes it can be enough to just decide what you want and to then let it go into the universe because things will begin to change when you do that. There are also times when taking physical actions (like getting out there and buying the clothes you want to wear) are an extreemly important part of getting to where you want to be.

That's something I think is important when coaching other people. What can they get to doing right now in the outside world that will make their lives better. Then comes the psychology as and when needed.

Great reply Frederic,

Love, Jamie

ooooh fun - will think on this then post a reply...

ok - I went of and had a play with it.

Unfortunately, for the sake of the exercise, (but rather happily for me) my snapshot of how my life is and the most appealing wonderful bestest way I could make it are one and the same (things are good for me right now) - so in order to play with the the exercise I need to chunk down from "life" to something more specific, then I may be able to get results of a more useful variety.
