Discussion:
Being Rich, Is It Worth It? -
Hi Everybody,
Yes, I know, you can meta model the subject line to death... However, to clarify, there was a recent article in the Sunday Times on a new book that caught my interest, but not for, perhaps, the reason(s) the author thought it might. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/printFr...61-525,00.html
...and what I thought is or was a refreshingly frank overview of what this gentleman thought was necessary to be rich. He attempts, I think, to paint what I imagine he believes is a more realistic view of what it takes to be wealthy, both from the point of view of the subjectively good and this objectively bad, at least in terms of impact on one's lifestyle and relationships.
Of course we know as NLPers that people who do something extraordinarily well don't necessarily understand what is that they're doing exactly. We also know that what may be commonly accepted wisdom held by the people who do something exquisitely well doesn't necessarily have to be true.
For example, we all know the story, I think, of the four-minute mile and the many generations of runners who agreed that it was a limit that was impossible to break.
So, I wonder, how many of the things that he feels are nearly insurmountable obstacles or practically unavoidable drawbacks are truly insurmountable or unavoidable from an NLP perspective?
I've noticed that there is also a rather interesting dynamic with regard to the way that many people seem to respond to those who have successfully generated wealth. Sometimes there seems to be a positive reaction while much or perhaps even most of the time, the reaction seems to me to be negative. How do you think this article plays into those kinds of preconceptions or perhaps moves away from them?
With all of that in mind, I'm curious... do people have any other comments or observations that this article may perhaps spark?

I found the article took a view that being rich is only available to me if I work hard enough to become ill or psychotic. It is of course based on Dennis's own experience, and when viewed in this light tells us more about him than about being rich.
I recently 'hosted' an evening for my practice group when Marcus de Maria came down to talk to us about his 'wealth workshop' programme. Marcus is an NLPer and has a passion and a mission to spread 'wealth' as widely as possible. He got us to examine our 'beliefs and values' around being wealthy and about 'rich' people. The 'evening' is a taster for a 'wealth workout' programme, which starts with a weekend in London and is followed by teleconferences, further support meetings, coaching etc. I invited him down because an NLPer I respect has done his programme and its already beginning to turn her life around.

I was sufficiently impressed to sign up for his programme too and will be on his September event.
