I've just been reading an interview with Derren Brown in The Telegraph on Sunday and he was talking about when he came out as gay. When did that happen?

Either when he was born or during his early development, most likely. There's a lot of debate about that...

And back to what you actually meant, I'd not heard anything about him announcing his sexual preferences. I know at least a couple of ladies who are going to be disappointed!

I saw that interview and I thought it was a clever use of future pacing - i.e. he's talking about when he came out (past tense) and how it was no big deal (past tense), when actually he's coming out right now, and he wants it to be no big deal now. Language in action.

(But it might simply be that I missed a memo and he really did come out before.)

I genuinely laughed out loud when I read that.

He does give the appearance of being rather camp, but I'd never let his sexuality get in the way of my respect for him and his skill set, is it possible that his statement in the Telegraph was the actual event of which he speaks in past tense, just a thought

I have plumbed the depths of my psyche (it didn’t take all that long) and for the life of my I cannot work out how this is of any interest whatsoever.

Actually, I think that's good news (I've just added a new topic about my story-writing if this paragraph isn't making any sense). My character is gay, so that fits just... perfectly.
