Can we get more stars or magic beans if we type larger?

It seems we keep changing rating schemes. First we were going for stars, then there were two different sizes of stars and you could hover the mouse over the stars and see some numbers, now there's magic beans, and then suddenly hovering over the stars didn't do anything. I suggest we start adding our own individualized rating schemes. And you know the pre-sup... we go 1st!

No that was Freddie Star.

Hi John,

Freddie Star was killed in a traffic accident in the Mid 60's and it was covered up because they knew he would eventually be the voice of Thomas.

That's why, if you play the theme song to the show backwards, it sounds like 'Yop GuRnool Twaaaet', which, of course was the sound Freddie made whilst driving. It's also why Thomas is never depicted as wearing shoes.

Thanks for the opportunity to clear that up, John! Now back to the bunker to await the aliens...

Be Well,

Michael Perez

Hi Paul,

The site has been around for quite a while before the ads got here, but this is a high bandwidth site and that costs money to run, money that has previously come out of Chris' pocket.

Now, thankfully, a number of people have recognised the value of a place like this and the people who participate in what happens here.

So, Chris has decided to reinvest some of that back into the community by rewarding people like you who give us all something to read when we visit!

There's a lovely link, Advertise here, on the left side of this page where people can inquire about ad rates. Feel free to let your friends know about it!

I hope that's helpful, Paul!

Be Well,

Michael Perez

I don't see why you can't charge a small annual subscription to cover costs. I'm sure people would be ok with this if they value the site. Many people have had a lot of free advertising anyway

That's a great idea! Please let us know when you set that up and what your membership rates will be.

Will your forum have an international focus and be in English or are you going to aim at the Scandinavian market?

Be Well,

Michael Perez

Michael, the post is relating to NLP Connections, not to creating another forum. Why on earth did you read it that way?

Lots of people here seem to respond as if they are being attacked!

Maybe its a language problem in understanding, but the post was to congradulate and suggest a better way to promote this site. There is no thinking or suggestion about creating an alternative site.

Thanks Paul and your suggestions are always fun to read. I don't think charging people to be a member here would promote the site though. My experience is that people value it being a free resource, open to anyone, and I'm committed to never charging for membership.

The system is pretty much the same as it's always been. The number of stars reflects the number of points you have. The more points, the more stars. I think having a graphic as well as the number brightens the page up.

We have the larger stars because the range of points is quite wide. Some people have about 20 points and Michael Perez has more than 20,000 points! Rather than give Michael hundreds of small stars, which would make the page look like a planetarium, each large star is worth more. Several people have large stars now. I don't, sadly, as I don't post enough!

What about stars to reflect Quality as well as Quantity? Long post aren’t everything.

Perhaps they could be Green or Blue.

Who?

You get points (and therefore stars) when:
  • You log in to the site (one award per day)
  • You post a message on the forum
  • Another member values one of your posts and gives you a bonus point
  • You contribute an article to the resources section
  • You refer a new member to the site
  • You host or attend an NLP Connections event
So quality is rewarded as well as quantity.

There will soon be a page explaining more about the points and how you can give people bonus points.
