A few years ago , a client came to see me in my home , for Stop Smoking Hypnotherapy.

I explained my method, and was surprised , when he turned to me and said
''just make me forget I ever smoked !''

No matter what I said...he stuck to his guns....with an

'' I'm paying for your time'' attitude....

Finally I agreed, induced hypnosis and took away the memory , of him ever being a smoker !

9 months later , I got a phone call , to do a home visit. I never recognised the client , and it was only when he told me that he had been hypnotised before, and made to forget that he had ever smoked , that I realised he was the same chap.

He did not recognise me !

I asked what had happened, why had he started to smoke again.

He explained , that he had recently , split up from his wife...and went to his local pub, every night after work , and at weekends.

Every time he went into the pub, his mates , offered him a cigarette...and every day for 4 months...he rejected their cigarettes...saying he didn't smoke...and had never smoked.

His friends told him, everytime, several times a day and night that he did smoke...and that he had always smoked !

Eventually, after 4 months, of this unrelishing peer pressure ,he wondered to himself, if in fact, he had smoked..and what it was like to smoke...he was crumbling !

He tried it...and though he didn't like it...began the journey of being a smoker once again !

The second time of trying, with my tried and tested method, failed. He was still not ready.

The session was spent , with him resisting being hypnotised, with a visible, relaxation of his stiffened muscles....as I said to him...at the end of the ssession

''in a few moments , I am going to wake you up....''

At which point , I would start my session again ,and try again , while his defences were down and he was visibly relaxed !

It ended with him promising to get in touch with me, when he was back with his wife...and stress free again .

Success is built on a back log of failures...we all fail sometimes...it's no shame...as long as we do our best ...and learn from the experience ! Peter Walsh

Interesting story, I have heard of another hypnotist hypnosing their client to forget that they ever smoked and it had drastic results on their marriage. Causing all sorts of arguments as in this case it was his wife who insisted that he had been a smoker. In the end the wife complained to the hypnotist, and it transpired that the only time that they relaxed together was in the evenings with a cigarette ......... and not being able to do this was ruining their marriage.

After I heard this story I made sure that each time I helped someone stop a habit that they wanted to get rid of that they had some other way to get whatever that habit gave to them.

Nice remedy Tina...how did you replace the adrenaline buzz , and heightened awareness , that smokers get , by inhaling all those chemicals and poisons ? Exercise ?

An interesting question and something that I discuss with each person. Asking them what they would rather have instead and then installing this with trancework.

I am impressed by your 100% success rate with smokers, I have about a 90% success rate and see 80% of these once and the others twice.

My own figures suggest , that 70% of the problem , is gone on the first session...

Most people are non-smokers after the second session.

The third session acts as a reinforcing session....

My clients then have an actual session recording ,on cd , for self treatment,
now from day 1 , for additional help if they require it !

(I used to make them wait until session 3, so I could collect my figures/statistics , etc )

....and now they all go away quite happy , that they have an ''emergency 4th session'' that they can use any time in their or my lifetime !

It means I have to work harder than most....as because my charges are not excessive they don't have the ''extra incentive'' of

    ''I'm not having a cigarette , after paying out £500 !''

    But , I love the successof others...it gives me a great buzz...if they fail....I fail ! And I hate to lose !

Done what with 3 friends ?

    I think you want the
    ''3 in a bed'' topic Glenn !

    Haha !

3 out of 3 is 100%...and with friends , can be infinitely more difficult !

So well done Glenn ! Keep it up !

I always aim for 100% , in whatever I do...and then if I fall short...I will have still have done better , than , if I had no target to aim for at all !

That's smart thinking. I've met people who say that they expect the worst all the time so that anything better is a bonus. Makes me cringe.
