    Re: Bipolar

No problem Irena, you're very welcome. Andrew seems to have a lot of Experience and Knowledge in these areas, and is a 'Respected Member ' of NLP Connectons....though he hasn't been involved in discussions , for a while.

I typed into Google 'Bipolar Andrew Austin' and it brought that page up. A useful reference , on perhaps how to get Andrew's slant on this or any other problems of this nature.

I'm glad it helped, I hoped it would.

    Re: Bipolar

Not too sure if this helps. I've been around a number of people with bi-polar disorder. When they are in the upper phase of their mood state they often seem to have strategies for purchasing "things" pretty hot wired at times yet without the feedback to keep an eye on finances, and there is loads of visual predicate eye accessing going on. Also, in my experience matching verbal energy is a biggy when your intention is to gain rapport, they often feel angry and frustrated, usually when well intentioned others suggest they slow down and relax! Another useful generalization is that they are pretty hot on sloppy language used by others. I have at times been rather unaware of my language and was meta-modelled to the bone!

Another generalization is that individuals in the manic phase are often feeling fantastic and who would want to come out of this state?

Gaining rapport, meta-modelling, and explaining the positive purpose of those other individuals that are suggesting or imposing limits on their behaviour has been useful. The limit setting aspect can often be quite tricky, however continuing to respect their frame and letting them unpack in their own time with some further well timed meta-modelling usually gains enough rapport and trust over time to help with there recovery. Please remember that a large majority of those that are in the 'neutral' phase have explicit memories off what they and others have said and done when they were in the 'manic' phase of their cycle. There can be associated states of depression, shame, guilt, remorse, etc, etc...

I understand my observations are full of generalizations and my intention is not to insult anyone who experiences this disorder or knows someone who has, particularly as my experience is largely been from the perspective of a mental health professional.
