Paul Mckenna Motivational £20K Talk To Unemployed Look into my eyes … you will get a job (and I'll pocket £20,000 courtesy of the taxpayer) - The Scotsman Paul McKenna paid £20,000 for jobless 'pep talk' - Telegraph
Think it is a good idea, and sure he will give them more motivation than some boring politicians. Would be interesting to hear it and find out exactly what kind of approach he takes, as others like a Tony Robbins type figure bouncing around woo-hoo I don't think would strike a chord with unemployed youngsters in Scotland. -
I want to see what happen to the unemployed after this event.
I wish he did it in the uk -
He is doing it in the UK. And it could work well...McKenna has an anecdote about being booked for some kind of 'cool' yoof tv show, and given a really naff introduction. He made the gig work by linking hypnosis to the idea of getting high. Worked a treat. -

I think it was brilliant that they brought Paul McKenna in to do this - this article does at least cover the response of the people on the course. Critics have no illusions over Paul McKenna’s £20,000 talk - Herald Scotland | News | Home News

I work with a large number of unemployed teenagers; the government put millions of pounds into supporting teenagers into EET (employment, education and training) and there will always be people who are for and against any project using taxpayer’s money. In every area there are a number of “hard core clients” clients that are long term unemployed and in many instances have had to overcome personal barriers in their life. On average these clients personal belief system around their abilities, skills and qualities is a belief that they will not succeed and they have no skills-this is a very common theme. Many agencies will work with the “hard core client” group, some helping the client move forward with different areas of their lives, while other clients don’t move forward even with the support of a wide range of agencies. With employment/careers advice-advisors may match job roles to the client’s personality, give out job offers and college applications (among other interventions)only for the client to return the following week saying “they did not apply” If you want a different result, try something different. More agencies and professionals are using NLP, Solution focus techniques, among others to change a person’s belief system and confidence to help move them on. It would be good to see the results for those who attend the event, for both short term and long term. Many will argue that the money should be spent on apprenticeships, jobs, etc rather than a 3 day session on motivation. It always good to remember that a motivated person with self belief is likely to go out and look for vacancies on their own, saving money long-term. My only question is “would the money be more effective to be spent on training advisors in NLP, confidence building techniques, as they will see over the course of the year a larger number of clients who need this kind of support, or will Paul Mckenna have a longer lasting effect on the clients who attended?
