A few years back, my friend Paul McKenna asked me to come on board to help research and edit a book project he was working on called I Can Make You Rich!. Our mission was to uncover any patterns in the thinking and behaviour of the super rich and to find ways of sharing those patterns with ordinary people who wanted to be able to transform their own experience of money in a positive way.

What qualified me for the job is my nearly 20 year background in a field called Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP. NLP is the study of the structure of subjective experience – that is, the study of how it’s possible for two people (or in fact, 6 billion people) to have completely different experiences of one external event.

Because of Paul’s extraordinary network, we were able to gain access to a number of the richest people in the world, including 7 of the 50 wealthiest people on earth. As the formal and informal interviews with people like Sir Richard Branson and the now deceased Dame Anita Roddick (the founder of the Body Shop) rolled in, patterns began to emerge and the book began to take shape.

However, for me, an entirely different quest began. What fascinated me was the vast difference in the quality of life that these financially successful individuals seemed to experience on a daily basis. I quickly began to (unofficially) divide our research subjects into two categories – the “miserable millionaires” and the happy ones.

Since much of my own work as an author, teacher and coach has been in uncovering and sharing the secrets of happiness and success, this was an area I could wholeheartedly throw myself into, and I was surprised to find that the attitudes, beliefs and behaviours employed by the “happy millionaires” were fairly consistent across the board.

While they used very different language from one another, they described a similar way of experiencing the world, one in which each day was a unique treasure and money was no more or less than a way of facilitating the treasure hunt.

This workshop is an exploration of what we can all learn from the “happy millionaires”. In this manual, I have included some of the exercises we will be doing during the course and some that you can take away and play with on your own after our time together is complete

The goal of this program is not necessarily to turn you into a millionaire, though that certainly can and will happen for some of you - it's to take you to the place where money is neither your reason for waking up in the morning nor your reason for not being able to sleep at night.
