Paul McKenna's Phobia cure(s) Hey,
Recently Paul McKenna sent out an ad promoting a dozen different (?) downloadable audio versions of the 'phobia' cure. Paul McKenna Downloads
it raised some eyebrows when I read the following parts .. '... perfecting 12 phobia cures...'
What? 12 different phobia cures... isn't one enough? '...you can download a phobia cure session with me for just £14.97 and use it as many times as you need to'
Does he mean it doesn't really work?
Plain marketing or really a good way to help people cure their phobias?
Imo just plain marketing, trying to get as much buzz as he can, nothing more.
Have fun

There are yes 12 different specific sessions that are designed to deal with 12 specific issues-
Have you every done a phobia cure form spiders- and used the process you might have used for heights-/ fear of heights and spiders are very different..
so there for the words and language would be also different to support the change- needed.
You are lot smarter than this- and you know you have to change the words to fit the criteria for change-
Paul Mckenna's personal development audio's are by far some of the best in quality and structure. I know as I have a lot of his works-
I would recommend Paul's work 100%

Re: Paul McKenna's Phobia cure(s) I think it's 12 different downloads for 12 different kinds of phobia, yes?
So that way he can say "think of spiders" instead of "think of the thing that used to scare you".
That doesn't sound like a terrible thing to me.
He could feasibly have made just one download, to work with any phobia, but I suspect that people generally would have been less likely to believe that could work. Similarly, listening once should be enough and he's still added an extra layer of reassurance for people who haven't learnt as much about hypnosis/NLP as us yet.
A lot of people who use NLP professionally expect their clients to know the jargon / understand the process. What I think Paul is excellent at is making things so simple that almost anyone can get results using his systems - even if that means he adds some 'unnecessary' extra bits into the process, so it 'makes sense' to people. -

See how he pared down I Can Make You Thin to four steps, for example, from the 7 steps of the system's previous incarnation.
He does of course add new things when they'll be effective... the 2nd edition of that book includes an additional refinement, a technique to stop 'self sabotage' in its tracks. (Plus there's an additional testimonial, from my missus!) http://www.johnmeaney.com -

When doing a pre-recorded NLP and hypnotic session you miss out on one of the most crucial elements of good NLPing, calibration!
The recording is going to be generic, and it is not going to be adjusting to the clients specific responses so necessarily it paints with a broader brush.
Repetition helps to get good coverage even in this medium - and most non-NLPers are going to find it harder to accepts a thorough piece of changework in only one session - repetition helps them to convince themselves that something has happened. -
Re: Paul McKenna's Phobia cure(s) hi i have used some of Pauls stuff and i have to say it didnt work for me though i would not question his sincerity ! I have struggled with a phobia for years and despite using eft, hypnosis, nlp cures and much more have neverhad any lasting cure so would be really grateful for any advice ? -

Hey Lou/Yoga teacher,
I'm not an NLPer or hypnosis guy. But I have a pretty good understanding of how vicious cycles tend to become worse (I'm familiar with some NLP ideas and some ideas from hypnosis but am not trained in either).
I have noticed some patterns in what can create and amplify problems. I'll explain in plain English. Okay. You have the primary state (this is what you call the phobia). You experience the phobia AT THE MOMENT YOU'RE IN THE SITUATION. Any anxiety after the fact that you experience is not the phobia itself, but is a secondary state.
Ivan Pavlov would probably call it a secondary conditioned reflex. Some NLPers would call it a meta-state. Here's a quote from a show I saw about a lady suffering from depression: "What was worse than the depression was the anxiety ABOUT the depression.".
So, if you were just dealing with a phobia (let's make something up, like spiders), ideally you'd just feel like shit when spiders are around and then you'd feel okay when the spider's gone. I believe the bigger problem and also amplifier is any worry or anxiety you have ABOUT the phobia. Think of the states you're experiencing like a pile of weights. The first weight is the phobia.
Then the second weight is beating yourself up about the phobia (this is well after the spider or whatever is gone). The third might be worrying about how to get rid of it. These states create misery away from the phobic situation and also amplify the original phobia.
Work on the secondary states and then you'll only feel like shit real fast, for a brief moment (when you're actually IN the situation that triggers the phobia), which is a hell of a lot better than feeling like shit for long periods of time. The phobia might even decrease or disappear. But if not, at least you'll only feel like crap for a little bit.
Get rid of one weight at a time. That should give you some relief -
Hi Mindmaster,
Thanks so much for taking the time to post that reply, qualified or not that is by far the most sensible thing I have heard in a really long time ! Hope to speak some more thanks again.
