Forgiveness

what are peoples views on forgiveness?

i believe (flexible belief!) that forgiveness is a person offering genuine sorrow for something they've done, and showing they've learned and changed from the wrong they have done, and the other person (victim) acknowledging and accepting this.

but what if a person has passed away or doesn't accept and give them that forgiveness?

do they have the right to move on? say if it was a really bad crime? do they deserve happiness?

(just a random thought that i sometimes have!)

what justice or punishment should they recieve? (if any?)
