Steadying the Tilt

Hi All,

I have stolen this seed from another thread and am confident it will grow in its own right.

As a keen but rather new poker player I am starting to believe success is more about my state of mind and what processes I am running rather than the cards on the table or in other peoples hands, when playing online I speculate this is more true. I have quickly moved away from the belief winning has anything to do with what is in my hand.

What techniques to others use to assist their poker playing?

I struggled 'on tilt' for a while and tried with limited success to regain a confident state, so STATE CONTROL is a biggie for me to work on.

I always find there is too much going on at a live table to really grasp a competent CALIBRATION strategy to work out if any of the strangers at a table are bluffing at any stage with any real success. It is quite easy to do with familiar people but I struggle with a table of new faces.

One real nugget I have learnt and used is to watch players who learnt the game online and watch how they place their cards down. When online a simple 'click' decides the next action, when a player is holding a low hand they click a box to "check or fold" depending on whether anybody before them raises. You can see on how they put their cards down in a similar manner to 'hitting this button' or if they have a good starting cards quite often they will put them side by side as if to show the under table camera as on televised games. I played at one table where 2 players religiously followed this method which made drawing them in and getting them to fold on the river quite easy.

I am sure some of you cleaver and crafty peeps have some real poker gems whether leant or home made.

Many thanks,

Matt
