Re: How to Handle Cold Callers

    WARNING !

When I downloaded this site, my McAvee site advisor , told me that this site is linked to Zango.com , which drops Adware , Spyware , and potential Malware Etc !

It dropped a device , on my computer , called "Fastcllck"......of which details are below !

Fastclick was an Advertising Company , which was one of the most visited domains on the Internet , according to official figures , (from the it serves on other websites). Fastclick paid publishers up to 65% of revenue it generates from ads on their sites. Fastclick's minimum advertising campaign amount was 1000 . It was acquired by Google in August

    Criticism

Its Ads are criticized for being very aggressive, bypassing both Windows Explorer and adware pop-up blockers, even though the company denied these claims in the press.

Best answer from Yahoo, re Fastclick...........voted by members of Yahoo..........

This is potential malware and should be avoided like the plague. If you don't have an anti-spyware program, get one like Spyware Doctor and quick scan once a day and deep scan at least once a week. If you think you may already have media.fastclick on your computer look in Task Manager/ Processes using ctrl/alt/delete and look for anything that has media.fastclick in the name. In a worst case scenario this file could have come to you courtesy of a worm.Make sure your anti-virus software is up to date.

    Hi All,

I personally didn't have a problem going to that site but then again I use Firefox which is much less vulnerable to spyware.

In light of recent spyware related problems here on the forum, might I strongly recommend that the installation of anti-spyware software and perhaps more than one anti-spyware package? I would also recommend switching to an alternative browser like Firefox or Opera. These alternative browsers are much less vulnerable to spyware and malware than Internet Explorer.

Both of these precautions can be taken by using free software, so cost need not be an issue.

These days, I think that responsible computing requires that people implement responsible safeguards against these kinds of problems.

    Thanks for the warning, Nigel!

    Be Well,

    Michael Perez

Re: How to Handle Cold Callers

    Hi Guys

One of my favourite approaches is 'reverse telesales'. I don't remember where I got the idea, but it works like this: when you get a cold call from someone, reverse the frame & start asking them qualifying questions, with the goal of becoming a sales training supplier to their organisation. It's great fun for practicing your NLP skills, & you may get some business out of it (I used to do this when I was in the 'corporate training' market).

    Enjoy!

Re: How to Handle Cold Callers

So how do we handle cold calling salespeople?
    Any tips?
Second personal fave on handling cold-callers is to quickly discover what it is they want to sell (lets call this ABC) and then explain how it is their lucky day as you sell XYZ which is what every ABC company needs...

For example: uPVC or toughed glass for double-glazing companies.

Funnily enough, salesperson quickly loses interest in talking to you.

First personal fave is to go for complete pattern interrupt with some kind of nonsense statement like - "Wow, I can really smell the sweet caressing sound of your eyes".

If you're lucky, you will get a state of confusion and suggestibility... then just tell them to ring off!

    [I said 'RING' off... ]

Re: How to Handle Cold Callers

Just offer them a blanket & cup of hot coffee or tea. Wait until they warm up, and then send them on their way.

Re: How to Handle Cold Callers

Do not under any circumstances , Annoy or Insult them........as they will pass your number around to other Operators.......to deluge you with further calls at all times of the day or night and totally disrupt your life !

Try telling them , that You are charging Them , for their Call ...at say £20 per minute........

They might tell you that you cannot do that..........

That is when you inform them , that your Bank charges you for calls.......Your Accountant charges you for calls .....and so you are charging for calls too......works beautifully ! Sweet !

Re: How to Handle Cold Callers

or if you are in the uk and it is calls to your private (not business) line register with the Telephone Preference service (which it is free to do) and not get bothered with the majority of the calls in the first place. The few that ring by mistake hang up fast when you ask wher they got your number from as you are regstered with the TPS
