I admit I have marveled at the genius of Derren Brown in the past. And simultaneously been deeply troubled at the ethics of some of his stunts. Did the candidates who were conditioned to rob a securicor van at gun point go on to secure that job interview later? Or the man Derren drove "mad", filmed, had him sign his rights away and then televised him to the nation? Does that man still live in the same town?
We know Derren was a signed up Christian at university until beginning to suspect he was gay. He has since gone on a "crusade" against the superstitious (see Messiah) and yet whole heartedly supports the more illogical and unscientific of Richard Dawkin's works. At the same time he enjoys pictures of devils and demons on his books/posters, enjoying conjuroring with the devilish imp persona. Has he really freed himself from his early indoctronation or is this the backlash?
BUT.....this looks really interesting as he helps someone dig deep to find the courage to save the lives of others at the peril of losing his own life. Now you are talking Derren!!!! Keep up the great showmanship...

    in awe....

bloody hell I can't wait until his next book. kindle version (I don't buy paper-based books anymore...long story but a good one -- saves trees, saves space, saves storage room ,saves shipping costs, easier to organize, etc) comes out oct. 14. seems like ages away!!

I listen and relisten to the audio version (and have thoroughly read nad hey! may reread! good idea) his Tricks of hte Mind. witty, funny as heck, but most importantlyt insightful. I developed my frickin' "spiritual scientific level of life" (atheism) from reading that book. And I WILL get to the uk for an extended period of time and see the man live. goal.

His new show which starts this week on Channel 4 looks interesting and shrouded in secrecy too, it will be Live but other than that no details of what it will be about. He's a great showman.

Just seen DB's "Hero at 30,000 feet" and loved it. Derren's expanded on the 'extreme self help' concept that he touched upon in one of his Trick Or Treat shows. I'm reminded of some of the more provocative stunts espoused by certain celebrated NLPers, particularly as the common goal is to help the client break free from old ways and allow new self-empowering realisations to dawn.

I think DB has a strong compassionate streak, in spite of his carefully-crafted devilish persona. He hinted at the unrealised potential of the viewing audience, and I would love to see him expand upon this idea further - imagine a nation of coach potatoes sufficiently moved to transition from "effected" to "cause", from passive to active participants in their own lives...

    Or not.

I find the reviews on Amazon very useful when deciding which books to buy.

Here's the link for Derren Brown's books

    Amazon.co.uk: derren brown: Books

(hope it's ok to post it on here)
