    Sleeping Less

    Hello people!

I was wondering if you know of any way to 'learn' to sleep less and still have the rest we need?

I read in conversations with RB that Richard sleeps from 3 to 5 hours! I want that!!!

    Thanks!

Drink a lot of water. Most people find that regularly drinking 3-4 litres a day means you can sleep 1-2 hours less than you're used to and still bounce out of bed really energised and alert.

I change my mind often; I might not agree with this any more

Don't take it too far. Richard Carlson ( Don't sweat the small stuff and other great books) pushed it a bit too far and ended up having problems sleeping towards the end of his short life.

Have you seen Richard? He is not the picture of health. Do yourself a favor, sleep 6 to 8 hours. You will have a much higher QUALITY of life.

I think it's worth making a distinction between things you can do to make yourself healthier (things like drinking water, improving your diet, exercising, meditating...) and mental things that might work on your recovery strategies or whatever.

If you don't have an alarm clock and sleep as long as you want, then you will typically sleep for as long as you need. Become healthier and you'll probably find you need less sleep.

Also, the people who know Richard say he naps quite a lot. I can't remember the study but someone showed that four 15 minute naps throughout the day can give you the equivalent recovery time to two or three hours at night.

I change my mind often; I might not agree with this any more

Thanks for all the replies! in general I have a reasonably healthy life, and I tend to sleep for 7 hours : )

To have 3-4 extra hours to read, meditate, play guitar or do work. Does it make a difference what it is for? Well I guess that if it is to meditate it is different than if it is to jump and kick intensivelly for 3 hours...

    cheers!

Sleep depends on the individual & of course their energy output mentally & physically during the day, as well as their diet. With diet you drink a lot of stimulants coffee, fizzy drinks, etc generally you may need more sleep.

Before sleep do Self Hypnosis best time to do it when you are tired almost drifting off, you will rest better, or if you cannot use hypnosis on yourself put on a hypnosis CD and relax to it.

Also your attitude to sleep and what you have planned for the next day will help you rest, and more importantly get you out of bed inthe morning ready to rumble!

''I'm constantly being asked if I am Incontinent because I sometimes look like I've pished my pants after a seminar, then I try to explain to people who have no idea what I do anyway that I've been doing a seminar and used a bottle of water as an analogy but they still don't get it and give me very suspicious looks. Usually now I try to wear darker trousers at seminars so I don't have a pished my pants look after them, though even with them often still noticeable.''

I know a lot of people who say that meditation enables them to sleep less and still maintain their energy levels.

I can't say that it applies to me. I meditate regularly but still I find I need 7 - 8 hours sleep.
