Since NLP techniques were modelled from successful people, using successful techniques, the only way to determine whether somebody is 'using NLP' is to ask.

They may just be using what they've found to work without studying NLP.

And using successful techniques is what living is all about.

I'm disappointed as I thought this thread would be a serious look at Obama's oratory and influence skills.

There was a recent history channel documentary on Body Language that discussed Obama's use of rhythm, resonance and escalating volume. They noted that he may have learned this from evangelical church pastors

I have a statement AND questions. "The meaning any communication is in the response it receives". Somehow, I think that the whole notion of whether Obama did or didn't use NLP MAY be irrelevant. Oratory is generally interesting to listen to, in the opinion of many who listen to orators. More to the point, does Mr Obama operate from a position of integrity and purity of intent? How will we know whether this is the case? In any event can we REALLY know, if such and such is the case? (Give the man a chance: he's newly appointed and has yet to prove that he has made a productive contribution to the world of politics..... and economics?). Anyone who has his job had better have the former (integrity) in spades! Similarly, I'd like to imagine that we can all behave towards each other with civility. I found myself skimming over the responses in this verbal 'ding dong', cringing with embarrassment and worrying about how others might attack me if I were to propose this, that or the other thing? I haven't read Obama's speech yet because I was preoccupied with the 'fisticuffs'! Be good to each other people. Please. There's always a better way to make a point and to leave all of our egos intact
