Nice Example of 2nd Positioning in Golf

I was just catching up on some golf related gossip to do with Tiger Woods' Caddy Steve Williams making some remarks about Tiger's main competitor Phil Mickelson and noticed this nice example of 2nd positioning by Steve Williams, who was describing how he gets into the mind of his boss tiger.

I'm the only person outside his father, Earl, who can read his mind. I've spent my whole life studying the psychology of golf. I can get inside the heads of players.
"It's pretty special. I can understand Tiger. Each and every day, I can pretend I'm standing in his shoes. I see what he sees, feel what he feels. Whether he's happy, any bad habits ... trying to read his mind. You have to know when to say things, when not to. It's a real psychology game. If he's confident, he will start aggressively. If he's not, it's a conservative start."

Being a golfer i have noticed more and more that golf techniques are similar to NLP techniques. Lots of visualising and getting yourself in the right state. Golf seems to me is about 50% techniques and 50% state management.

Anyone one out there using NLP to improve their golf?

    Cheers

Re: Nice Example of 2nd Positioning in Golf

    Hi Lenny,

I just picked up golf recently (I played other sports professionaly) but I've also coached players in the past (many years ago) including a couple young girls who are now playing in the LPGA.

Cool quote you share with us.

I think the mental game (not only state control while it being very important of course) is perhaps even more than 50% of it.
I include in the mental game (visualization skills, accurate reads on the course, beliefs about oneself and the game - incl. specific situations of the game, concentration, relaxation, motivation, etc.)

Anyway, NLP (and DHE) applied in sports is a cool topic. And I must admit golf is a fun and not as easy as perceived sport.

    Hi Lenny,

I'm using NLP to help my husband better his game and so far he's constantly improving! He's even one a few local tournaments!

One of my best friend is a very good golfer and has made a name for himself for being able to play well under pressure, in particular he has one several competitions in play offs and has never lost one.

I found a few things about how acheives this.

For one he always believes he is better player than his opponents and that he can get par or birdie form anywhere.

He would utilise anything he could possibly find annoying about an opponent to fire himself to want to beat them.

He is also the only golfer i know that can seem to lose their cool, i.e club throwing, negative self talk and then play better. His answer for this was it shows he cares and has more dertimination. I also noticed that him losing his cool is normally followed by a cooler state of controlled concentration.

bad luck, bad shots, bad lies, bad bouces = that's ok I'll just concentrate more, enjoy the challenge.

There was a lot more but this is all i can remember off the top of my head.

    Cheers

Re: Nice Example of 2nd Positioning in Golf

A friend from Dawson's Creek, British Columbia, Canada has had significant successes with golfers using EFT to improve their games and scores.

A google search for Gary Lowe, Peacetherapy may give more info--it's been a number of years since he visited Australia.
