Concern with Self-loss

I'm very interested with NLP, and have learned some basic stuff through gleaning over the internet, but I have a major concern:
With having to remember to use things like subliminal messages, mirroring, and all of that, I feel like I can't be myself 100%
I'm confident. I'm not depressed or have no self-esteem, but not cocky or arrogant, either. I'm very lucid. I'm content with my life and myself, and don't really have any major problems.
I just feel like NLP is something that's not only interesting and a way to test limits and boundaries (self-improvement), but more importantly have a nice tool to use to take control of conversations...

Thing is, I don't want to lose who I am, with my personality and all, to use these techniques.
Anyone have the same concerns?
Blah, I just feel a bit disillusioned I guess
